Zombies, Hipsters, Pirates, Ninjas, Superheroes, Robots, etc. are all fair-game themes in which you can have yourself transmogrified in painted form.

ADDITIONALLY, I’ll be giving 3 runner-ups their choice of a 13”x19” signed velvet archival print. Choices are: Sherlock, Ron Swanson, and Inspector Spacetime.

How to Enter:

FACEBOOK: Simply comment on the following facebook post. You get an extra entry if you click the “share” button and post it to your wall. ( Sam Spratt - Facebook Contest )

TWITTER: Follow http://twitter.com/#!/SamSpratt and tweet the following phrase verbatim on twitter:

“ Entering to win a custom portrait #painting from @samspratt’s portrait contest! https://www.facebook.com/sam.spratt ”

This also counts as an entry.

TUMBLR: Just reblog/like this post!

How long this will last:

This contest will run until April 6th, 2012.

You all are the best! Good luck and thanks again to all who follow my little slice of artwork on the web.

NOTE: You must be a follower or subscriber at the time of the win.

Why all this? Well, you’ve gotta write a big check with quite a few zeros at the end of it to commission art from me—and call me crazy, but I firmly believe that in a perfect world, people *should* get to own art AND do things like “pay rent”, “eat food-like substances on occasion”, and maybe even “continue to live”. Two of you can do that, the rest of you… you’re screwed. Sincerely, <3 Sam

Weenend Full of Derby!

I spent the weekend doing Wheel of Justice Derby Daze! We basically spent about 7 hours skating both Saturday and Sunday. Each day started with a warm up and then 3 different clincs. The last 2 hours were spent scrimmaging.

It was great learning from the best in our league not to mention Bonnie Thunders and WTF OMG were there doing jammer clinics.

I learned so much this weekend! I’m terribly tired and haven’t recovered at all yet. Every part of me is sore. I also took a nasty fall on Saturday and have a huge bruise forming.

I have been making a list of things to not forget from the workshops. I plan on writing it up and posting it here, along with my bruise that yesterday looked like a smiley face.

Tonight I get no rest as I have my first lesson with White Flight. I’m so lucky to have gotten to work with 3 people on the USA Team. What an amazing experience it has been. I can’t wait for my lessons with White Flight, I just wish I was a little less sore.

More to come soon! Till then keep skating my friends!

Themba, the baby elephant, lost his mother after she fell down a cliff. The team at the Shamwari Rehabilitation Centre rescued him and for two years they dedicated their lives to getting this very special orphan back to the wild.

Themba soon befriended a very patient sheep named Albert, and together they formed a bond as strong as any human friendship. Albert never left Themba’s side and would follow Themba and his carers on long walks; share in Themba’s favourite snack of acacia pods; and when Themba took a dust bath, so did Albert. If any of the other animals at the Rehabilitation Centre tried to join in their fun and games, super protective Albert would make it quite clear that they were most unwelcome. The unlikely pair also made friends with a baby giraffe, and enemies with a baby hippo.

This might be the greatest thing I have ever seen on Tumblr. Extra amazing because the Sheeps name is Albert.

I love this so much.

Elephants have been known to die of broken hearts if a mate dies. They refuse to eat and will lay down, shedding tears until they starve to death. They refuse all human help.Scientists are beginning to believe that animals do have emotions and that their feelings may be more intense and unfiltered than our own. Emotion rises from the old brain, the limbic system, which birds and reptiles as well as dogs, humans, and other mammals share. Humans have additional brain structures and symbolic language to process our feelings and a complex array of psychological defense mechanisms that allay or soften the impact of our emotions. We repress, deny, subjugate, dissociate, and use all kinds of conscious and unconscious machinations to separate ourselves from our feelings, but animals have no such recourse, so their emotions are likely to be raw and strong. In fact, this may be one of the reasons we find them so attractive: they wear their hearts on their sleeves, so to speak. People seem to deny the existence of animal emotions so that they can continue to justify inhumane treatment and exploitation and avoid the fact that our actions have a deep emotional impact on our fellow beings.

Kicking the Gluten

So a few years back I made the worst decision of my life. I decided to switch BC to the Depo and was in it for about 9 months. I gained 20 pounds and became horribly depressed. I actually had to get on antidepressants when I stopped. Depo has messed me up in so many ways and my body just hasn’t seem to be the same ever since. It’s been several years and I have been trying to lose that weight with no success.  I have always been extremely active, martial arts, roller bladding or biking to school/work, working out at the gym, and now roller derby.

None of these things seemed to make a difference. I will admit that I look like I weigh less now than I did when I was on Depo. For some reason depo made me look huge. So it’s good that no one ever believes me when I tell them I’m over weight. Yet the hard fact is I am. I want to lose the weight not because I want to fit in a smaller size and whatnot (though that’s a good secondary reason) but because I want to be healthy. There are a lot of health issues in my family that I want to avoid. I don’t want diabetes or heart disease.

Last year my cholesterol was high, I found out later so high that my doctor had wanted to start me on medication. I wanted to try with diet and exercise to change this. She gave me only 6 months and if it didn’t drop significantly I would have to start meds. I’m pretty young for that and wanted to make a change. I’ll admit my diet didn’t change much, though I also have a pretty good diet. Lean meats no fast food or sugary things. But I lack veggies like no ones business.

3 months after that appointment I started skating at least twice a week and a month before began Roller derby. My cholesterol dropped to nearly normal. My doctor said it was a HUGE improvement and she didn’t think I could make that much of a change. I know it was the derby, the skating at least 3 times a week. I have since upped the amount of skating I do. I now skate about 5 times a week and then have a off skate training once a week. Soon I’ll start biking to work again as well. I’m eager to see what my cholesterol does next.

I was talking to a coworker about my frustration on not loosing anything regardless of how much more physical activities I was doing. She suggested I try gluten free as her husband lost nearly 20 pounds in about 2 weeks just from cutting it from his diet. I had tried this before and failed horribly. I love sandwiches and pasta and just couldn’t do it. She suggested a gluten free brand called Udi’s and brought me a piece to try. It was actually bread like! It was a little dry but other than that good. They make bagels as well which again a little dry but good.

So I bought a loaf of bread and some bagels and have been doing the best I can. I have been mostly gluten free for about a week and a half. I have cheated here and there but nothing huge. In a week and a half I have lost 8 pounds and the only thing I have done is cut out the gluten. I told myself I would try this for 1 month and only believe any loss was actual loss at 10 pounds. I say this because it is common for the body to fluctuate 1-5 pounds in a day due to water or whatever. So I felt that losing 10 pounds was an actual results and it needs to stay off. So I would say this is a good sign so far. There is still 2 and a half weeks left in the month and I’m curious to see how this will turn out.

If I can lose the 10 and keep it off I will probably stick to a low gluten diet. I can’t say I will cut it completely but I definitely think I will minimize the amount I consume. Luckily for me here in Portland there are a lot of places that have a gluten free option. As long as I have something to make sandwiches and pasta with I think I can do this.

Wish me luck!

Actual Transforming Ravage USB Flash Drive
It looks like there’s several different versions of this floating around out there, with the genuine thing selling on ebay for $499.50, and some generic versions as low as $18.99. My experience in retail urges you not to buy generic unless you want something that was built to last 30 days, but then I guess that all depends on whether you actually plan on using this thing or merely playing with it and making RAWWWRRR noises.

Ravage was my favorite transformer to play with when I was a kid. I want this so bad.

Nothing I Can Do

The past two days I have felt like I’m drugged. It’s aweful. I know I’m super lucky to basically only have to deal with MS fatigue so I’m not fully complaining. I just hate feeling this tired. It’s like nothing I do seems to help give me energy.

Next week I’m going to try to start the Anti-Inflammatory diet. I don’t plan on going hard core with it, I still plan on eating meat and cheese. Though I’m going to try and cut out glutin as much as possible, as well as really prosessed foods. It will be a challenge but I’m going to give it a shot. I figure I’ll try it out for about 1-2 months and see if it helps at all. Anything to get some more energy.

It’s so odd that I feel the best when I’m skating. I seem to react the opisite of how I should to MS. Most people have a hard time in hot weather or working out to hard due to over heating. I on the other hand have no problem with it, yet feel worse in cold weather. *shrug* I love the heat so no complaints there.

I’ve also been depressed lately about my father. I miss him a ton and I just wish things were different. My mother has been really down lately too. I can’t imagine what it is like for her. I wish I could help her out some how or make her feel better. I realize that there is little I can do other than just listen and be here for her. Still sucks.
